SPOTLIGHT ON Mike Ridyard.
Mike is the Personal Advisor/Education and
Business Liaison officer within school. This is what he has to
say about his role within school:
I have two
roles in school as a personal advisor with Connexions Cumbria
and working directly for Dowdales in business and educational
liaison; both are about building on the role the school has in
preparing its pupils for the world of work, education and
training, from the age of 16.
Connexions is
a youth support service for all young people from 13 to 19. It
offers advice, guidance and support in the transition to adult
and working life. It focuses support on those facing the most
barriers to progression. As a personal adviser I work mainly
with young people one to one or in small groups. At present I
am helping Year 11 pupils prepare for the post transition and
preparing to work with Year 9 after half term, looking at option
choices.
