Mindfulness is a key strand of how we support students’ emotional health and wellbeing, together with a range of other strategies and inputs both from our own staff as well as external agencies. It’s all about equipping our students with the skills and resilience they need so as to thrive in school and cope with the stresses and strains of being a young person in today’s wider world. This is the message that the Head, Mrs Dove, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Massicks and Ms O’Connor had to deliver to our young people from feeder primaries and colleagues which was very well received. We were very fortunate to have Mindfulness practitioners Jo Bentley and Andrea Baqai join us on the day to lead part of the session and inform the audiences more about Mindfulness in schools and how it has had such a positive impact on our students. We heard from four of our students who spoke eloquently about how it has improved their lives, both at school and at home, which was very inspiring to hear.
We are expanding our Mindfulness provision to now include Year 7 in addition to Year 9. We have more staff trained to deliver the techniques to more and more students and this is something which will be able to expand further in the near future as additional staff receives the training.
