GCSE Mathematics Course
The Mathematics GCSE encourages pupils to consolidate their understanding of mathematics and to be confident in using maths to tackle problems in the workplace and in everyday life. Pupils continue to develop these skills from KS3.
There are three modules for the GCSE and pupils can enter Foundation or Higher tier for each depending on their particular strengths.
Module 1 is the Handling Data aspect of the curriculum and is examined at the end of Year 9.
Module 3 is Number and Algebra although at foundation tier it is mainly the number aspect of the curriculum, at the higher tier some algebra is included, and this is examined in March of Year 10.
Module 5 is Number and Algebra and Shape Space and Measure, this is examined in June of Year 11.
At Higher grades A* to D are available whilst at Foundation grades C to G are available.
All pupils will need a scientific calculator, a protractor and a pair of compasses for their work in Mathematics.
KS3 Mathematics Course

In Y7 pupils are building on their successes from their primary school with the numeracy stratgey.  The levels which are available on our scheme of work go from level 2 to level 7.

Y8 pupils continue to follow the national numeracy strategy, whilst also developing their problem solving skills and tackling functional tasks.   The levels available in Y8 are from level 2 to level 8.

In Y9 pupils consolidate their KS3 learning and continue to develop their problem solving approach on the functional tasks.  Y9 pupils also take the first module of the GCSE exam in June, this is the data handling section of the GCSE.

We tailor the curriculum to individual needs so in some cases pupils may do slightly different activities depending on their needs and individual abilities.
