MFL DEPARTMENT

Composition of Department:

• Mr P. Beach. Director of Modern Languages. Teaches French and German to GCSE and Gifted and Talented Japanese.
• Mrs G. Lowdon. Subject Leader - French.  Teaches French to GCSE and KS3 German.
• Mr D. Edwards. Subject Leader - German.  Teaches French and German to GCSE.
• Ms A. Tame. Teaches German to GCSE and KS3 French.
• Mrs J. Reid. Part time teacher of French and German to GCSE.
• Mrs R. Graham. Full time languages assistant (German).
• Mrs M. Becquet. Full time languages assistant (French).

Subjects offered:

French, German, Gifted and Talented Japanese.
In year 7, all pupils study French for 3 periods a week.
In years 8 and 9, all pupils continue French for 3 periods a fortnight, and also study German for 3 periods a fortnight.
At GCSE, languages are part of the option grouping. We follow the AQA linear (Specification A) course in both languages.

Annual Events in MFL:

• Year 7 trip to Picardie, France – July.
• Year 9/10 trip to Cologne, Germany – July.
