Trips Abroad 2008

Cologne 13-17 July 2008

This year's German trip from Dowdales will be the first to go to the city of Cologne. We will be staying in the Köln-Deutz  Youth Hostel on the banks of the river Rhine and our first activity will be a sunset boat trip on Germany's biggest and most famous river. The trip will also include a visit to Marksburg Castle (with its reknowned torture chamber) and to the city of Koblenz where the rivers Rhine and Mosel meet. Here pupils will demonstrate their language skills by completing a street survey and will also have time to relax and shop. The evening activity will be a visit to one of Cologne's many Eiscafes (ice-cream cafes) - a very German tradition!! The following day will be spent at the fantastic Fantasialand theme park - an opportunity for the pupils to unwind and meet other German children. The trip is designed to offer pupils a taste of old and modern day Germany as well as opportunities to practise their language skills.

Picardie 13-16 July 2008

This year's annual Year 7 trip to the Opal Coast of France will offer many pupils their first opportunity to speak French in France and experience the French culture and way of life. Pupils will visit the Nausicaa Sea-Life Centre, one of Europe's leading aquariums with a brand new Penguin exhibit and 4D cinema, before walking into Boulogne old town to buy their own lunch in a cafe. Day two involves a trip to the stunning seaside town of Le Touquet for a French drink tasting and a stroll around the local shops. Following this pupils will be able to let of steam at the Bagatelle theme park. Evening activities will include quizes and the Dowdales Beach Olympics.

On the Earth there is Scotland.
In Scotland there’s a hotel called “Gleneagles”.
In “Gleneagles” there is a room.
In the room there are eight men.
In these eight men there is the possibility
Of eliminating poverty for ever.
