| Blender Workshops at Dowdales School with Lanternhouse and CLEO
The Blender workshops led by artist Sumit Sarkar and supported by CLEO (Cumbria Lancashire Education Online) at Dowdales School in Dalton have now been completed. It was a fantastic piece of partnership work. The Year 9 students gave up their own time after school to learn how to create 3D images using the open source software 'Blender'. By the end of the sessions the students were really skilled with the software and had created 3D characters. Many of the pupils had downloaded the tutorials and worked at home too. One pupil said "I went home and downloaded the tutorials after the first session and have been using them since then".
Lanternhouse would like to thank Dowdales School for being such a great school to work with. The level of commitment and enthusiasm shown by the pupils and by Mr Porter Head of IT was impressive.
In the sessions Sumit showed a group of Dowdales School students some of the work he has produced using 'Blender', and then introduced them to a set of tutorials currently in development designed to take learners through the stages of mastering the basics of Blender 2.5, the latest version of the software. The tutorials will be hosted on the CLEO website and will be also be available as a zipped Moodle course.
During the final session students shared the work they had created and had the opportunity to discuss ways they might further develop their skills. Their designs will be showcased on CLEO and be eligible for entry to a national competition planned for later this year.
It is great that Lanternhouse, CLEO and Sumit Sarkar have partnered up once again to deliver some high quality offers to schools in the North West.
