We welcomed two representatives from Energus who came to talk to Year 11 students about apprenticeships in Cyber Security. Energus provide a number of courses including a CyberFirst STEM course which gives students the opportunity to underpin skills and knowledge developing their mind and eye in this complex field. There are many apprenticeship opportunities available to our students and they benefit greatly from meeting professionals in the field.

Year 5 pupils from Newton Primary School joined us today for their taster day. The pupils took part in lessons in Geography, Languages, Art and Science. Thank you to the pupils today for your fantastic behaviour and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Students took part in the Furness District Schools Cross Country Championships this week hosted by St Bernard’s School. The team competed in six separate races with strong performances from all including Year 7 student Daniel Knott who came 2nd and Year 9 student Jakob Nelson who came 3rd in their age category. Well done to all students and special congratulations to the top 5 performers who will now go on to represent Furness at the County Championships in January.

Following the overwhelming success of last year’s Reverse Advent in aid of Barrow Foodbank our IT department once again started a Reverse Advent Calendar at the beginning of November hoping to collect much needed essentials for local families. Each day members of staff added something to the box including cereal, soup, pasta and sponge puddings. Today the parcel was completed and, thanks to the generosity and support of our staff we have collected 250 items for the Foodbank. Congratulations to our IT department and thank you to all staff members for your kind donations which will make a huge difference to families in the local area this Christmas.

Dowdales Singers performed at the Mayor of Dalton’s Christmas Carol Concert on Friday at St Mary’s Church, Dalton. They performed Christmas carols and popular Christmas songs alongside Barrow Male Voice Choir and Dalton Town Band.

As we look ahead to next week we have a number of festive events taking place. On Wednesday we are holding our annual Christmas at Dowdales Concert in the school hall. The last remaining tickets are available to purchase via our reception on 01229 469800. On Thursday we are holding our Year 7 Carol Concert at St Mary’s Church, Dalton at 2pm. I would like to invite our Year 7 parents and carers to this event as it is always a fitting end to our students’ school festive celebrations. On Friday we are holding a non-uniform/Christmas Jumper day for both students and staff with a donation of £1 which will be donated to a worthy cause.

Please may I urge you to take extra care in this particularly cold and icy weather.
